Bandal

Yesterday we spent a few hours shooting in a lovely part of Bandal district. I haven’t been anywhere quite as nice as this outside of Gombe—it was lovely and fairly quiet, with little paved roads and colorful houses and terrace restaurants with big plants growing all over the porches. There’s the occasional man wheeling an ice cream cart around, the houses all have doors instead of curtains, and there’s less trash on the streets. The small restaurants boast of such dishes as crocodile and boa constrictor, for a pretty steep price by Kinshasa dining standards. It’s definitely higher-middle class than the area of Kasavubu where our Parcelle is, and where we’ve done the majority of the shooting while I’ve been here. If I was Kinois I’d definitely want to live in this area of Bandal.
